Kerrisdale – September 6th

The weather forecast looks great for Saturday – we’re celebrating Seniors Day at the Market!

Seniors will receive great discounts on the best in local produce, baking, artisan crafts, local wine & spirits, and treats of all kinds. We’ll also be hosting free health events for seniors and all shoppers.

Throughout the day registered nurses from the BC Nurses’ Union will offer free blood pressure & blood sugar screenings, and offer guidance for follow-up. The Noble Hearing Institute will also be on-site offering free hearing screenings and free hearing aid testing & cleaning with Dr. Rahim Ghanbari. Registered dietitian Ellie Holmes will be at the market between 11am & 1pm offering free nutritional advice.

Lucky for us, Seniors Day coincides with the Kerrisdale Days celebrations that will be taking place on Friday & Saturday, September 5-6.

If those aren’t enough reasons to shop at the market this Saturday it’s also MAD – Member Appreciation Day. Your Vancouver Farmers Market membership entitles you to vendor discounts plus discounts on VFM merchandise and we waive the $2 transaction fee when purchasing market money

Market Manager Ron’s Pick of the Week:

Agassiz-based The Farm House Natural Cheeses returns this week with their wide selection of yogurt and cheese from pasture-fed cows. Their small family dairy farm is located in the lush Fraser Valley, where cows and goats graze grass fields and produce top quality milk – the key ingredient to good cheese. In these fast- moving times of global markets and industrial food production, it is The Farm House’s wish to nurture and preserve the increasingly – threatened values and traditions of the family farm.

Vendor Hightlights:

For baked goods we have Whistler’s Purebread, which will be right next to the Market Cafe and Mogiana Brazillian coffee.

In the meat and eggs departments we have Rockweld Farm for eggs and chicken, Capella Farm for free range eggs and Chef’s Natural Sausage with a tasty array of locally-made sausage.

We have two liquor vendors this week with Odd Society Spirits and BC Wine Studio. You’ll want to drop by for samples of these handcrafted products. Be sure to ask Mark of BC Wine about his market food and wine pairing of the day.

We’d like to congratulate Plenty Wild Farm for recently being certified as Third Year Transitional Organic! The organic certification process is not always easy but definitely worth all the time and effort. Check them out every week at Kerrisdale along with our other certified organic growers, Crisp Organics and Forrest Nelson Organic Farm.

Make sure you wear your sunscreen  – we hope to see you down here for Kerrisdale Days and our Senior’s Day celebrations!
