Market News

Kerrisdale - August 2

It’s time to get MAD! (not that kind of mad)… it’s Member Appreciation Day this Saturday! The first market of each month we show our appreciation to our members by offering discounts on merchandise, vendor products and no transaction fee when buying market money. Your membership helps our non-profit organization to sustain the small producer and farmer – find out more at our red Market Info booth.

Welcome New Liquor Vendors

We’re welcoming two new liquor vendors this week with Odd Society – Makers of Fine Spirits and Robin Ridge Winery. These BC distillers and vintners are the perfect addition to our line-up of local makers, bakers and growers.

Ron’s Pick of the Week

Returning this week is Le Meadow’s Pantry. Try this preserve vendor’s lemon marmalade on a toasted baguette. Wow. It’s darned good. Pair that with a cup of coffee by Mogiana and you’ll enter what I consider to be “Breakfast Heaven”.

Food Trucks

Looking to have something to eat at the market? Super Thai and Culver City Salads will be onhand. Super Thai offers Pad Thai, Chicken Cashew Nut, Pad Ka Pow, Thai curry, Tom Yum Soup, Papaya salad, and Thai Ice Tea. Culver City offers all vegan, all gluten-free, salads and salad dressings. They sound simple and they’re simply delicious!

Organic Produce

Two organic produce vendors will be be joining us on-site this week with Forrest Nelson from Cawston BC and Crisp Organics straight from Abbottsford. Plus we have a full complement of produce and fruit vendors to satisfy just about any desire.

Chicken and Eggs

We welcome back Capella Farm Market this week who’ll have eggs and fresh vegetables. Rockweld Farm will also be on-site with their top quality chicken and eggs.

Don’t forget to try your luck on the Spinnerama carnival wheel (kids always win something).

Join us for another great market day in Kerrisdale.

See you there!

Trout Lake - July 26

We have a great line-up at the Trout Lake Farmers Market this weekend and summer is in full bloom! Last week brought the beginnings of field-grown heirloom tomatoes, Okanagan peaches and Pemberton potatoes. We’re enjoying a bumper crop year of blueberries too. Buy them by the case and freeze or jam a whole bunch. What a good excuse to eat pie and crumble daily!

Don’t miss these vendors:

  • Poplar Grove Arbour Hazelnuts: Talk to Peter about the state of hazelnuts this year and in years to come. If we don’t support hazelnut farmers, we may not have much of a BC hazelnut future!
  • Jamaica Blue Coffee Co: Welcome Chris to Trout Lake with his delectable cold brew – he’ll put on a pot of the hot stuff for you die hards too…
  • Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery: Last time we saw these guys, they were showing us how to fillet fresh salmon!

Thanks for celebrating our 20 Seasons birthday with us – we’ve still got some limited edition buttons at the Market Information Booth so you can wear us with pride! Check out some of our event photos here

See you at the market!

Mount Pleasant - July 20

From Onsite Manager, Laura Gibson:

We are back this Sunday with the best of what’s in season!

Peaches and apricots are so tasty right now, time to stock up! And don’t forget your veggies…beets, chard and eggplants are yummy right now too.

Vale Farms produces 100% grass fed, chemical and hormone-free meats in the Okanagan. On Sunday they will be bringing chicken and turkeys! Be sure to ask about their “Country Kitchen Family Packs.”

Both beer and spirits! Award winning East Van Microbrewery R & B Brewing Co will be there for the first time, and Odd Society Spirits is returning with Vodkas and Gins made from scratch with local ingredients.

Everyone’s fave Geek Sweets is bringing her incredibly decorated and delish cupcakes and cookies. They go fast, so get there early!

Vancouver Dogs will answer all your questions about how we can help build a dog-friendly Vancouver. For dog owners and non-dog owners alike!

The Bean Buggy, Le Tigre and JJ’s Trucketeria will be there too! Hurray!

Don’t forget to bring your compostables to the Food Scraps Dropspot! Mount Pleasant Market is one of the city’s 7 locations.

See you Sunday! 🙂
