Trout Lake - July 26

We have a great line-up at the Trout Lake Farmers Market this weekend and summer is in full bloom! Last week brought the beginnings of field-grown heirloom tomatoes, Okanagan peaches and Pemberton potatoes. We’re enjoying a bumper crop year of blueberries too. Buy them by the case and freeze or jam a whole bunch. What a good excuse to eat pie and crumble daily!

Don’t miss these vendors:

  • Poplar Grove Arbour Hazelnuts: Talk to Peter about the state of hazelnuts this year and in years to come. If we don’t support hazelnut farmers, we may not have much of a BC hazelnut future!
  • Jamaica Blue Coffee Co: Welcome Chris to Trout Lake with his delectable cold brew – he’ll put on a pot of the hot stuff for you die hards too…
  • Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery: Last time we saw these guys, they were showing us how to fillet fresh salmon!

Thanks for celebrating our 20 Seasons birthday with us – we’ve still got some limited edition buttons at the Market Information Booth so you can wear us with pride! Check out some of our event photos here

See you at the market!

Food Fact of the Week

Did you know that honey never goes bad? To prevent crystallization, keep honey at room temperature or in the freezer, not the fridge. If your honey crystallizes, place the open jar in a pan of hot water and heat gently until no crystals remain.

What’s for Lunch?

Culver City Salads will be onsite this week with fresh & flavourful salads – always vegan and gluten-free, always packed with loads of colourful vegetables and proteins. Their dressings are made from scratch, gluten free and vegan, and you can take a bottle home with you for later. The ladies of Culver City work with local farms, whole ingredients, and strive to be as sustainable as possible, using only 100% compostable packaging.

Market Fun

Play the Spinnerama! If you get to the market early you can spin the Carnival Wheel at the entrance to the market for a chance to win one of 4 weekly prizes! Kids always win something.

Speaking of kids, we’ve got a weekly “Kid Zone” set up at the entrance for them to do some bubble blowing or chalk drawing, along with facepainting and live music.
