This Sunday at Kitsilano – Oct 4

Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving is only a week and a half away so it’s time to get prepping! We’ve got all your Thanksgiving needs at the market, including organic squash from Stein Mountain, brussel sprouts from Paul’s Produce, organic Pemberton potatoes from Helmer’s, cranberries from Cranberry Meadows and of course organic apples for apple pie from Josbt-Hof.

REFUSE, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Vancouver’s Farmers Markets is working towards becoming BEYOND Zero Waste – that means we don’t just want to divert our waste, we want to eliminate it! Here are some helpful tips to help us with our mission:

1) Bring your own reusable bags – start by refusing to use any disposable bags at the till and bring your own reusable bags for your produce. Forgot your bag at home? Don’t worry, we have you covered at the Info Booth! We sell both large canvass shopping bags with our 20th Anniversary logo and smaller Got It bags for produce.

2) Eating at a food cart? The best thing is to bring a container from home and asking the food truck vendor to not use any of their own packaging. If you came to the market not expecting to be tempted by those delicious food carts and you don’t have a container with you – don’t worry – just ask the vendor to use less packaging! We’re trying to encourage our vendors to use plates instead of wasteful clamshell packaging when it’s not necessary and to avoid containers with multiple materials (i.e. a metal handle on a paper box), making it hard to compost/recycle. Help us keep the vendors waste management in check and encourage them to use more sustainable practices!

3) Don’t bring any outside waste to the market – that includes coffee cups! We no longer have waste stations at our markets so we’re leaving our shoppers with no options to create waste. Unfortunately we’ve see coffee cups left in some farmers stalls and we need to haul it away at the end of the day. Waste hauling fees are expensive! Help support our non-profit by not brining any waste to the market.
