This week at Trout Lake – August 1

Trout Lake Youth Council “Waste Watchers” help divert over 90% of market waste from the landfill

Can you believe it’s August already?

First market of the month means it’s Member Appreciation Day. Check out member specials around the market and enjoy free market money transactions at the Info Booth.

Don’t miss these vendors:

  • Stoney Paradise: Milan returns with his infamous tomatoes! Look for the line-up before 9am and the grouchy, cardboard signs and you’re in for a delicious treat. Trust us.
  • Albert’s Herbs and Nursery: Did you know that Albert is one of our first ‘urban’ farmers? He has been growing in Burnaby, a mere 0.9miles away, for over 20 years. Look for his ‘picked at 6am’ vegetables and vintage East Vancouver Farmers Market apron. Albert is a wealth of information…
  • Johnny’s Pops: They’re the perfect treat while walking through the market – try the avocado-lime or blackberry cheesecake…

Trout Lake Waste Watchers

Have you seen the youth hanging around our waste stations lately? They’re helping us achieve our zero waste goals by diverting compostables and recyclables to the appropriate bins. Less than 10% of market waste needs to go to the landfill and these youth are helping make sure that happens! Stop and say thanks or answer their survey (they’ll give you a gummy worm if you do) – these youth are cleaning up the planet for all of our futures.

Fun Fact: VFM has banned styrofoam at farmers markets and requires all food trucks to have compostable or recyclable take-away containers

See you at the market!
