Empowering Newcomer Women Through Dream Cuisines
Vancouver Farmers Market is proud to support Flavours of Hope, a non-profit social enterprise, on a mission to empower newcomer women through the transformative power of food. At VFM, we feel honoured to back this incredible initiative that envisions newcomer women flourishing, experiencing a sense of belonging, and achieving their dreams by embracing cooking, storytelling, community-building, and entrepreneurship.
About Flavours of Hope
Flavours of Hope is more than just a culinary project; it’s a movement that seeks to break down systemic barriers within the food industry and create opportunities for newcomer women to thrive. Through their innovative project, “Dream Cuisines,” they provide a transformative 9-month immersive program that equips and empowers newcomer women entrepreneurs to make a living by doing what they excel at: cooking and sharing their unique cuisines.

The Dream Cuisines Program
The Dream Cuisines program is designed to address the challenges and barriers faced by newcomer women in the food industry. It offers a comprehensive support system that includes:
- Educational Workshops: Participants gain access to a wide range of workshops that cover essential topics such as food safety, business planning, marketing, and financial management. These workshops provide the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the culinary world.
- Peer Knowledge Sharing: In a collaborative and supportive environment, women in the program share their experiences and expertise, fostering a sense of community and solidarity. This peer-based knowledge sharing is invaluable in building their confidence and competence.
- Commissary Kitchen Space: Dream Cuisines aids with coordinating access to a fully equipped commissary kitchen, allowing participants to hone their culinary skills and create their delicious creations with ease.
- Sales Channels: Flavours of Hope connects newcomer women with various sales channels, including opportunities to showcase their cuisine at Vancouver Farmers’ Markets, food festivals, and other local events. This exposure helps them establish their businesses and gain a loyal customer base.
- Mentorship: The program offers mentorship from industry professionals who guide and support the women as they build their burgeoning food businesses. This mentorship is a crucial component of their journey towards success.
- Network of Supportive Relationships: Dream Cuisines participants become part of a tight-knit network of like-minded individuals and organizations that are committed to their success. These relationships provide ongoing support and encouragement.
Impact and Success Stories
The impact of Dream Cuisines goes beyond culinary skills and business acumen; it transforms lives. Through this program, newcomer women gain the confidence to pursue their dreams, support their families, and contribute to their new communities. Read the 2022 Impact Report here.
