Another one of our GREAT vendors at Mount Pleasant Market
Organic Farmers Honest Food Farm!
Honest Food Farm may be the newest organic vendor on the block here at Dude Chilling Park, but this family has been organic farming in the picturesque Similkameen Valley for decades. We spoke with Yuri and Brandie Zebroff to learn more about their farming operations, and what draws them to #MPFM.
Where is the Similkameen Valley?
South West of the Okanagan, the Similkameen is a semi-arid Valley home to a high proportion of organic farms, and a variety of small and larger scale farming operations, orchards, and wineries. Our farm is located in the Cawston – Keremeos region of the valley about 45 minutes from Penticton.
How long have you been organic farming?
Yuri’s father has been organic farming in the Similkameen since 1973 near Cawston, with a focus on orchards. Yuri grew up on the farm and beginning thirteen or so years ago we were working on this farm as a family while raising our own children. Six years ago we branched out to start Honest Food Farm. We specialize in heirloom vegetable varieties and tree fruit, but we grow all of the staple fruits and veggies. We have three kids ages 13 to 18 and they all help out on the farm and really see the value. Organic farming is a way of life for us.
What brings you to #MPFM?
We love East Van. We have lots of friends and great connections here; it is like our second home. We focus on bringing high quality, organic food to the people so it is great to spend time here, meet new faces, and share our produce with the community.
How often will we see you here at #MPFM this summer and fall?
We are scheduled every Sunday between now and the final 2015 market in mid October!
Be sure to check out Honest Food Farms at #MPFM this weekend. Try the peaches!
