This Week at Kits – August 30th
Edible Scavenger Hunt
Salt Spring Coffee is committed to providing farmers with the tools to build sustainable communities. They offer fair pay and protect human rights at every step of their supply chain. . To honour their Fair to Farmer program, Salt Spring Coffee launched their Edible Scavenger Hunt. To enter, pickup a postcard from our Info Booth, complete the hunt and drop off the card back at the Info Booth or snap a pic of the card and #FairToFarmer. The hunt can be done at one market or spread out over a few markets – but remember prizes are drawn every Friday! Find out more about this contest and the Fair to Farmer program HERE.
Last chance for peaches!
It’s been a fruitful summer – pun intended. Cherries, peaches and berries arrived early this summer with the early hot & dry weather. While we’ve enjoyed this fruitful bounty throughout the summer, it sadly will come to an end in the next couple of weeks. Grab your peaches while you can – Golden West, Harvey’s Orchards and Jobst-Hof are just a few vendors that still have these juicy fruits. (Apple & Pear season is next – crumble anyone?)
Food Scraps Drop Spots is Wrapping Up This Sunday, August 30th
With the recent Metro Vancouver Organics Ban, the Drop Spots are seeing fewer drops – which is a good thing! More buildings have implemented food scraps collections, allowing residents to dispose of their food waste at home. If your building doesn’t have organics collections just yet, contact our program partner Recycling Alternative (604-874-7283) or the City of Vancouver (3-1-1) for recycling collection options. The last day for the Drop Spot at Kits is this Sunday, August 30th. In the meantime, our West End Market will be accepting drop offs until further notice.
See you at the market!
