This week at Trout Lake – Aug 29
What a glorious array of tomatoes last week!
We’re still seeing multi-coloured beauties all around the market. And if you’re looking for ways to eat them or preserve them, check out our Facebook page – we posted 10 of our favourite ideas last week.
Don’t miss these vendors:
- Maples Sugar Shack: Patrick brings syrup from his family in the east and makes all sorts of delightful goodies with it. It’s kinda the perfect thing for a cool, rainy weekend
- Lowland Herb Farm: Boni has been away for a couple weeks but is back with her certified organic herbs, flowers and more.
- Estevan Tuna: Arguably the best tuna available in Canada, be sure to pick up a can or 20. In fact, we bet you can’t buy just one…
Edible Scavenger Hunt
Trout Lake sponsor, Salt Spring Coffee is committed to providing farmers with the tools to build sustainable communities and they’ve launched an Edible Scavenger Hunt to celebrate that. You could cross off every item on their scavenger hunt at this weekend’s market if you so desired… we dare you! Find out more about this contest and the Fair to Farmer program HERE. (Also say hi to them at their cold brew station in the middle of the market!)
Food Scraps Drop Spots Wrapping Up This Weekend
With the recent Metro Vancouver Organics Ban, the Drop Spots are seeing fewer drops – which is a good thing! More buildings have implemented food scraps collections, allowing residents to dispose of their food waste at home. If your building doesn’t have organics collections just yet, contact our program partner Recycling Alternative (604-874-7283) or the City of Vancouver (3-1-1) for recycling collection options. The last day for the Drop Spot at Trout Lake is this Saturday, August 29th. In the meantime, our West End Market will be accepting drop offs until further notice.
See you at the market!
