Have a broken electric toothbrush, vacuum cleaner, air fryer, or even an electric powerwasher in need of recycling? ElectroRecycle will be hosting collection booths at the West End and Kitsilano Farmers Markets for two final weekends this summer! Making it easy for you to recycle over 400 types of small appliances, power tools, and electric yard equipment for FREE.

Vancouver Farmers Markets has been proudly partnering with ElectroRecycle since 2015, offering regular recycling days at the markets. Over the past nine years, ElectroRecycle has collected more than 23,500 lbs of small appliances and power tools from our market shoppers!

Important Update: Due to a merger between provincial recycling programs, this will be the final year ElectroRecycle will be at the farmer’s markets. Be sure to mark ElectroRecycle’s collection booth dates in your calendar to participate!

Some Tips!

Electronic Waste is becoming a huge nightmare for households. Here are some tips shared by ElectroRecycle for recycling electronic waste:

  1. Appliances with Batteries: If your appliance has batteries that are difficult to remove, they can be left inside the device. To recycle other batteries, visit Call2Recycle to find a battery recycling location near you.
  2. TVs and Computer Electronics: These items are not accepted through the ElectroRecycle program as they are managed by a different Provincial recycling program.
  3. Alternative Drop-off Locations: ElectroRecycle partners with more than 200 depots across BC to collect small appliances and power tools. If you can’t make it to the West End or Kitsilano markets, click here to find a location near you.
  4. Usable Condition: It’s important to note that the collected items will be broken down and recycled into raw materials (glass, metal, plastic) to make new items. So, if you have a product in working condition, we encourage you to donate it before recycling it. Giving your small appliances to thrift stores like the Salvation Army, or posting items online for free are great options to give your product a second life.

Heads-up!

ElectroRecycle will only be accepting small appliances and power tools. Computers, TVs, printers, and audio equipment will not be accepted. Additionally, no fuel-powered products, please!

Don’t miss out on this final opportunity to recycle your small appliances and power tools at the farmers markets. Let’s make this last year with ElectroRecycle a great one!
