Fresh to Families
Fresh to Families helps increase access to fresh, locally grown food for low-income families and seniors in Vancouver, while supporting the growers and producers at our neighbourhood farmers markets.
Mark your calendars and get ready to shop! On April 5th, 5% of Whole Foods Market Vancouver or Burnaby stores sales will benefit Vancouver Farmers Markets’ Fresh to Families Project!
With the goal to raise $32,000 to send 110 additional families to the markets this summer, we hope you’ll fill your cart on April 5th to help feed your community that day.
Fresh to Families is an expansion project of the Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program, a healthy eating initiative for low-income families and seniors in BC that supports small farms and producers across the province.
FMNCP is a provincially funded program that distributes fresh food coupons through community agencies to expectant mothers, families and seniors that can be spent at farmers markets for produce, meat, eggs, nuts, and dairy. Each household enrolled in the program is eligible to receive $15/week.
The Fresh to Families project currently serves low income families, newly arrived refugees with children between the ages of 0-6, and at-risk expectant mothers. It is a partnership between Vancouver Farmers Markets, BCAFM, MOSAIC, Circles of Care and Connection, and Healthiest Babies Possible Program and the VCH Public Health Dietitians.
Fresh to Families directly benefits the livelihoods of over 80 VFM farms and producers.
There are currently 125 Vancouver families who will receive nutrition coupons for the 2017 season – help us bring fresh, local food to many more by donating today!
