The West End this week – August 15
Update: Market Money
Due to some technical difficulties with our debit machine, we will not be able to accept debit at the West End Farmers Market this weekend. Temporarily we will be accepting Visa and Mastercard for market money transactions. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and are doing our best to get our debit back into service. Thanks for your understanding.
Donation Station Week
This week we will be collecting donations for the Dr. Peter Centre food and nutrition program. This program allows Vancouver’s most vulnerable citizens to receive healthy, wholesome meals to help with taking HIV medication and other treatments so they can better manage the illness and lead healthy lives.
The program provides a complete and nutrient-dense menu that includes balanced portions of meat or alternatives, vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and dairy products. Please consider filling a brown bag with fresh fruit, vegetables, canned fish, nuts and eggs! Cash and market money are also accepted.
Two Market Contests
Edible Scavenger Hunt
Salt Spring Coffee is offering you the chance to get up close and personal with local farmers, the tasty stuff they grow! You could be rewarded with great prizes like foodie events, CSA shares and great coffee to name a few! Pick up your scavenger hunt postcard at the information booth. Get all the details here!
Instagram Contest
While we don’t have a Tomato Festival in the West End, there is a way we can get involved. Snap a pic of the weirdest, wonderful-est tomato you find at the markets this week and give it the hashtag: #inglorioustomato. You’ll have a chance to win $20 of Market Money just for taking a picture. All details here!
Did you know there are over 150 varieties of tomatoes at the Vancouver Farmers markets!
Food Scraps Drop Spot
Still don’t have a green bin collection program in your building? Bring your food scraps to the market and we’ll compost them for you.
As of September this will be the only drop spot left open in the City and in order to keep it open for the rest summer, we need to collect $2/drop to cover hauling fees. Here’s what to do:
- Are you a dropper? Donate at least $2 every time you drop.
- Not a dropper? Donate to keep the program going
- Want to volunteer? We’re always looking for enthusiastic people to share the Drop Spot love. Sign up to volunteer today!
