Vancouver Farmers Markets (VFM) is committed to creating vibrant and welcoming markets that feed people, build community and support small farms and producers. 

For the past few years, and in anticipation of the substation project, BC Hydro has been a West End Farmers Market sponsor. With the recent concerns about the future of Nelson Park, its trees, community garden and the market’s continued operation, questions have been raised about VFM’s sponsorship relationship with BC Hydro and whether that affects our ability to speak up about the project’s impacts on the market and its community. In fact, it is quite the opposite! Having BC Hydro as a sponsor has been useful to advocate for the needs of our vendors, and shoppers, including access to essential infrastructure and measures to mitigate construction impacts on market operations. We believe one of the best ways to support the West End community is to bring BC Hydro into the market, where residents and vendors can raise their questions and concerns directly.
