Get your share of farm-fresh goodness at CSA Day
In recent years, Community Supported Agriculture share programs (CSAs) have become a popular way for locavores to get a steady supply of seasonal fruits and veggies from nearby farms and producers.
The premise of a CSA is simple: members pay in advance of the growing season for a share of a producer’s harvest, providing them with much needed start-up funds to buy seeds, supplies, and equipment. In return, the CSA member receives a weekly (or bi-weekly) portion of what’s grown or raised on the farm throughout the harvest season.
What started as simple fruit and veggie boxes in the early days of CSAs has grown into a wide variety of options, including share programs for grains, meat and eggs, sustainable seafood (called CSF for Community Support Fishery), honey, herbs, and flowers. Many box programs now give their members the opportunity to “add on” things sourced from other producers like bread, cheese, coffee – even beer – for a more convenient, full-service option.
2019 CSA Day
Our upcoming CSA Days at the Winter Markets provide a great opportunity to check out all the 2019 options, talk more with the producers about the ins and outs of their programs, and register for the CSA of your choice. Look out for the blue “Get Your Share” signs at stalls around the markets for more info!
CSA Day at Riley Park Winter Market takes place Saturday, February 2 from 10am-2pm.
CSA Day at Hastings Park Winter Market takes place Sunday, February 3 from 10am-2pm.
Can’t make it to the markets this weekend? View a full list of Vancouver Farmers Markets vendors who are running CSAs, CSFs, grain shares (and more!) below.
